SABIC is a global leader in the chemical industry and today launched new LNP™ STAT-KON™ and LNP™ STAT-LOY™ compounds. These products provide enhanced antistatic performance for applications regulated by the EU's increasingly stringent ATEX directive governing equipment used in explosive environments. New technologies have the potential to replace inefficient metals and coatings or filled polymers in handheld devices such as electronic enclosures, automation equipment, equipment enclosures, lighting devices, safety devices, and flashlights.

"SABIC is committed to helping customers comply with ATEX regulations by actively developing specialized antistatic materials. Our new LNP grade uses optimized electrostatic discharge formulations to provide unique properties, such as colorability, and undergoes rigorous testing and experimentation by independent third parties. SABIC Professional Business Management LNP and NORYL Director Joshua Chiaw said. "These new compounds not only help speed time to market, but can also improve application performance, durability, aesthetics, and processability, thereby providing competitive differentiated advantages."

These two new products are based on SABIC's LNP™ copolymer technology. LNP STAT-KON DD000XI compound is an advanced material that provides excellent electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection while maintaining excellent impact resistance to protect sensitive electronic equipment and easy processing. LNP STAT-LOY D3000IEU6 compound is a colorable product that can reduce expensive secondary painting operations. Its proprietary polymer blend ensures sufficient ESD performance without disturbing electronic signals.

Consider ATEX when designing

The LNP STAT-KON DD000XI compound and the LNP STAT-LOY D3000IEU6 compound meet the ATEX safety requirements for electrical conductivity, while providing customers with ideal performance and processing attribute options. The LNP STAT-KON DD000XI compound provides a surface resistivity in the range of 106-1010 Ω. It provides high impact performance after low temperature and long-term water aging, as well as high heat resistance (140 °C @ 0.45 MPa heat distortion temperature (also consider replacing VICAT)). The material's wide processing window and high fluidity can reduce the weight of thin-walled designs, and its easy demolding (suitable for parts with relatively sharp draft angles) helps expand design flexibility.

Compared with traditional toner-filled polycarbonate (PC) solutions, LNP STAT-KON DD000XI compound can provide higher actual fluidity and a wider processing window, further improving productivity and design freedom. Its higher impact resistance helps meet the demands of increasingly demanding assembly and use conditions.

The LNP STAT-LOY D3000IEU6 compound provides a surface resistance of 109-1011 Ω to meet ATEX regulations while allowing high transmission of electrical signals such as radar, radio and Wi-Fi. The iconic feature of this product is its complete colorability-with a wide color palette, including vivid shades and good color retention after processing. Using this LNP STAT-LOY material, customers can enhance their applications with a wide range of colors for branding, aesthetics or safety instructions without the disadvantages of coating and painting operations. Previously, PC-based grades used for ATEX applications were mainly available in black.

Other outstanding advantages of LNP STAT-LOY D3000IEU6 compound include its high impact strength at low temperatures (extensible to -30 °C) and high impact retention after water aging.

"With each update, the ATEX equipment directive becomes more stringent and affects a wider range of applications-from industrial, electrical and mechanical equipment to electronics and healthcare applications," said Luc Govaerts, SABIC's Director of Professional Formulation and Applications. "Our new antistatic material is designed with unique LNP copolymer technology, which can help customers more easily and more reliably meet the ATEX requirements of their end applications. SABIC continues to develop new technologies that can produce new differentiated products. Stay ahead of changing requirements. This continuous expansion of our product portfolio will support new applications and provide solutions to meet future ATEX regulations."

SABIC will host a free technical webinar on new LNP antistatic materials on December 6th at 3:00 pm Central European Time / 9:00 am Eastern Time. Register to keep your place in this event.
